Frequently Asked Questions About Eyelash Extensions

What are the benefits of wearing eyelash extensions?

You may have heard that eyelash extensions can eliminate the need for eye makeup. The fullness and thickness of extensions applied by our eyelash technicians will make you look and feel gorgeous all day and all night.

  • Appear more approachable, youthful, and energetic.

  • Feel the wonderful experience of increased eye contact, connection, and inner confidence.

  • Save wasted time, frustration, and damage associated with eyelash curlers and mascara. Forget clumpy lashes, smudges, and eye-irritating flakes. Eyeliner is optional, because the base of the extension creates a line along the lid. Many  do not feel the need to wear makeup at all.

  • Bring out the color and brightness of your eyes. Our professional eyelash artist can bring out the green or blue in your eyes or brighten your brown eyes and your whites will be  brighter and less red.

  • Rest in our private spa atmosphere, while we apply your lashes. Allowing you to unwind, relax, or even take a little nap. Your comfort is our goal.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

Each extension should last for the remaining lifespan of the natural eyelash. As your natural lashes grow and shed, the extensions will grow and shed with them. Most clients experience enough shedding within 3 weeks to be in need of a touchup. Some clients need, or want, to come every 2 weeks. These clients either have a somewhat faster growth cycle, are a little rougher on their lashes, or just prefer to have their lashes at maximum fullness as much as possible.

How full your lashes will look at the end of your touchup appointment will be greatly affected by how many lashes you have when you arrive for your appointment- ideally you should have 50% of your extensions still on at touchup time. Please keep this in mind when determining how long to wait to schedule your touchups. Also arriving on time for your appointments will ensure you will receive the maximum amount of eyelashes. We require at least 25% of your extensions to be remaining at the time of your service to qualify for a touchup service. Waiting more than 5 weeks between appointments will require another full set appointment.

What if I have lashes that point downward? Can I still get lashes and see results?

If your lashes point downward you are in luck! Our stylist carries a variety of new lash shapes & curls that work to perfectly lift and open your eyes. You will definitely love how the lashes will transform your eye and make it come alive and exceeding your expectations.

Will my natural lashes be damaged?

Lash strips, clusters, and "individuals" sold at drug stores and bargain establishments will damage your natural lashes since they inevitably tear out lashes during application, growth, and/or removal. Also, inexperienced lash artists applying true single-strand eyelash extensions may make technical errors such as using too much glue, extensions that are too heavy, or attaching natural lashes to one another. Any of these errors can cause thinning of the natural lashes.

An expert eyelash stylist will assess the condition and sturdiness of your natural lashes and apply lashes best suited for you. Not only do we plan for your natural lashes to stay healthy and strong, we have many times seen our clients’ natural lashes become healthier and fuller as they continue to see us.

Why choose an esthetician, at  RuBrows?

Eyelash extensions applied by inexperienced or poorly trained eyelash stylists or not a licensed esthetician may damage your natural lashes. The key is making sure no two natural lashes are adhered to one another. Looking in a mirror, you can guess that this is no easy task. Being able to do this properly takes extensive practice, attention to detail, and a dedication to perfection. Be sure you trust the education and experience of the professional you choose. Ask to see proof of education, license, before and after pictures, and testimonials.

Will they all fall out at the same time?

No, your natural lashes exist at different stages of maturity at any given time. Your natural eyelashes are like fruit on a tree; they fall off when they're mature, but there are others still in the growth process that may not fall out for weeks or months. Your expert eyelash stylist will apply extensions to lashes of varying maturity to help ensure you look fantastic now and in the future.

Will the application process hurt?

No. In fact, our clients enjoy the regenerative nature of the application process. This is a time for you to relax and de-stress in our calming, peaceful environment. The process is so comfortable, relaxing, and pain-free that many sleep through the majority of their application. If you’ve experienced pain during or after your eyelash extension service, chances are you did not receive a quality application.

How are they attached?

Depending on the place of attachment along the eye line, an extension of appropriate length, thickness, and curl is selected, dipped in a tiny amount of surgical grade adhesive, and attached near the base of one natural eyelash. The extensions are applied to the lash, not the skin, in order to achieve the best, longest-lasting result without risking complications arising from attachment to the eyelid.

Can I wear mascara and other eye makeup?

Absolutely. Of course, one of the greatest benefits of eyelash extensions is eliminating the need for mascara on a daily basis. Eye shadows and eyeliners are perfectly fine to use. Oil-based products, particularly waterproof mascara, should be avoided as they may compromise the life of your extensions.

How do I care for my eyelash extensions?

Caring for your eyelash extensions is surprisingly easy. Two main factors in keeping your lashes healthy and full are regular cleansing & being gentle with your extensions. We will give you more specific instructions and tips at the time of your service.

Can I swim, shower, exercise, surf, tan, and/or sauna?

For the most part, you can live your life as normal while wearing extensions. Prolonged and excessive exposure to heat, humidity, and water may lessen the life of your lashes, but will not make them fall off. Some of our regular clients are fitness and surfing enthusiasts and do not tend to lose their lashes more quickly than others.
