Microblading & Permanent Makeup
Core questions from the current RuBrows FAQ and microblading education pages.
What is microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent brow tattoo technique that uses fine, hair-like strokes to add shape and fullness. It is especially helpful for sparse brows, over-tweezed brows, or clients who want a more defined everyday brow.
How is microblading different from a traditional tattoo?
Microblading is placed more superficially than a traditional body tattoo and is designed to fade gradually. That softer fade allows the shape and color to be refreshed as your face, style, and skin change over time.
How long does microblading last?
Most clients can expect results to last one to three years, depending on skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, skincare products, and how closely aftercare is followed. Touch-ups help maintain the color and shape.
Does microblading hurt?
Most clients describe the feeling as mild pressure or scratching. Numbing is used to help keep the service comfortable, and sensitivity can vary from person to person.
How long does the appointment take?
The appointment includes consultation, mapping, color selection, numbing, and the procedure itself. Plan on a longer visit than a quick brow wax because the shape and symmetry work are a major part of the service.
Is permanent makeup safe?
Permanent makeup should be performed by a trained professional using proper sanitation, sterile tools, and appropriate pigments. Clients should share relevant health history, medications, allergies, and prior cosmetic tattoo work during consultation.
Can permanent makeup look natural if I have very little brow hair?
Yes. A natural result depends on choosing the right technique, shape, pigment, and stroke or shading pattern for your skin and existing hair. Consultation helps determine whether microblading, nano brows, powder brows, or a combination is best.
Can I do eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips together?
Multiple permanent makeup services may be possible, but scheduling depends on the services, appointment length, skin response, and healing plan. RuBrows can recommend the safest order during consultation.
Should I wait after cosmetic facial treatments?
Yes. Treatments such as injectables, peels, lasers, or aggressive exfoliation can affect skin sensitivity and healing. Share any recent or planned cosmetic procedures before booking so timing can be adjusted safely.
Nano & Ombre Brows
How to compare hair-stroke brows, machine work, and soft powder shading.
What is nanoblading or nano brows?
Nano brows create fine brow detail with a machine-based technique. The result can look very natural while offering strong control over shape, density, and healed color.
How are nano brows different from microblading?
Microblading uses a manual blade to create hair-like strokes. Nano brows use a machine and fine needle configuration, which can be gentler and more consistent for many skin types, especially clients who need longer-lasting definition.
Which brow technique is right for me?
The best technique depends on your natural brow hair, skin type, desired softness, previous tattoo work, and maintenance expectations. A consultation allows the artist to recommend microblading, nano brows, ombre powder brows, or a combination.
What are ombre powder brows?
Ombre powder brows use soft shading to create a filled-in makeup effect. The front of the brow can be kept lighter while the body and tail are built with more definition.
How are powder brows different from microblading?
Microblading is built from hair-like strokes, while powder brows are built from soft shading. Powder brows can be a better option for oily skin, mature skin, previous brow tattoo corrections, or clients who prefer a fuller makeup look.
Tattoo Removal
Questions from the current tattoo removal FAQ page.
What is permanent makeup tattoo removal?
Tattoo removal for permanent makeup is used when old pigment needs to be lightened, corrected, or cleared before a new service. The approach depends on pigment depth, color, age, skin condition, and the client's goals.
Who is a good candidate for removal?
Good candidates are generally healthy clients with old, unwanted, discolored, or poorly shaped permanent makeup. A consultation is needed to check skin condition and decide whether removal, correction, or color neutralization is appropriate.
Does tattoo removal hurt?
Sensitivity varies. Most clients feel pressure, heat, or stinging during the service. Numbing and careful technique help improve comfort.
Will removal cause scars or hair loss?
Risk is reduced when removal is performed conservatively and aftercare is followed. Existing pigment depth, skin history, picking, and improper aftercare can increase the chance of irritation or scarring.
How many removal sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number. Older pigment, saturated pigment, dark color, or pigment placed deeply may need multiple sessions spaced apart so the skin can recover between visits.
Lip Blush
Service and healing questions from the current lip blush page.
What is lip blushing?
Lip blush is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo that enhances lip color, improves the look of symmetry, and creates a soft tint. It is not meant to replace lipstick intensity unless a bolder healed look is planned.
What is the lip blush appointment like?
The appointment usually includes consultation, color planning, lip mapping, numbing, and careful pigment application. The goal is a balanced color that heals naturally with your skin tone.
Is lip blush painful?
Lips can be sensitive, but numbing is used throughout the service. Clients commonly describe the feeling as pressure, vibration, or light scratching.
Is lip blush permanent?
Lip blush is semi-permanent. It fades gradually over time and can be refreshed with maintenance appointments. Fading depends on skin, lifestyle, sun exposure, color choice, and aftercare.
What happens during lip blush healing?
Lips usually look brighter immediately after the appointment, then soften as they heal. Dryness, flaking, and color lightening are normal. The healed color settles over several weeks.
Will I need a touch-up?
A touch-up is commonly recommended because lips can heal unevenly and color may soften more than expected after the first session. The second visit helps refine color and shape.
Aftercare
Condensed aftercare guidance from the old eyebrow, eyeliner, and lip aftercare pages.
What should I do during the first two days after brow permanent makeup?
Keep the area clean, dry, and protected. Avoid touching the brows with unwashed hands, avoid makeup directly on the treated area, and follow the specific ointment or cleansing instructions given at your appointment.
What should I avoid during the first two weeks?
Avoid swimming, saunas, heavy sweating, tanning, direct sun, exfoliating products, retinoids, acids, and picking at flakes or scabs. Let the treated skin release naturally.
What is eyeliner aftercare?
Keep the eye area clean and avoid eye makeup, lash growth serums, rubbing, and heavy sweating during early healing. Contact lenses may need to be avoided immediately after the service based on artist guidance.
What is lip blush aftercare?
Keep lips moisturized with the recommended product, avoid spicy foods and direct friction during early healing, and do not pick at dryness. If you have a history of cold sores, talk with a medical professional before the appointment.
What should I do if the healed color looks too light?
Color often looks lighter or patchy during healing before it settles. Wait for the full healing window before judging the result. The touch-up appointment is used to adjust softness, density, and color.
Healing Timeline
What to expect from day one through the first month after brow work.
What happens on day one?
Brows often look darker, sharper, and more defined than the final result. Mild redness or tenderness can happen immediately after the appointment.
What happens during days two and three?
The color may appear even darker as the surface begins to heal. This is a normal stage and does not represent the final healed color.
What happens during days four through seven?
Flaking, dryness, and light scabbing may begin. Do not pick or scratch. Removing flakes early can pull pigment and affect the healed result.
Why do brows look too light around days eight through fifteen?
Brows can enter a light or cloudy stage while new skin forms over the pigment. The color usually becomes more visible again as healing continues.
When can I judge the final result?
Wait until the full healing window has passed, usually around four weeks, before judging color and shape. The touch-up appointment is designed to refine the healed result.
Lashes & Areola Restoration
Additional FAQ topics listed on the current RuBrows FAQ menu.
How should I care for eyelash extensions?
Keep lashes clean, avoid pulling or rubbing, brush them gently, and avoid oil-heavy products around the lash line. Follow any timing instructions from your lash artist for water, steam, and makeup after your appointment.
What is 3D areola restoration?
3D areola restoration is a restorative cosmetic tattoo service that recreates the appearance of the areola and nipple area with realistic shading and color. It can be used after breast cancer, surgery, or for cosmetic restoration goals.
Do I need a consultation for areola restoration?
Yes. A consultation helps review skin condition, scar maturity, color planning, expectations, and whether the area is ready for tattooing.
